~This Christmas season, the post office will handle 10 billion packages. They won’t deliver them, they’ll just handle them.

~The Los Angeles Zoo has opened their new elephant habitat. There hasn’t been this much excitement at the L.A. Zoo since the exhibit of the Baldwin brothers.
~Elephants are a natural fit for L.A. They have thick skin to survive all the criticism, they have great memories to remember who screwed them over, and they have long trunks to reach across the room at parties and snort other peoples’ cocaine.

~It’s perfectly fine to get a co-worker a gift certificate for a full-body massage. It’s not OK to start giving them one.
~Ninety-nine percent of the eggnog purchased all year is purchased during the week before Christmas. And 99 percent of that eggnog is poured down the drain during the week after Christmas.
~Nog is short for No One is Going to drink it.
~In Abu Dhabi, there’s an $11 million Christmas tree. The prime minister of Abu Dhabi said he hoped the tree would be a symbol that Abu Dhabi has a lot more money than us. And that we’re paying far too much for gas.

~1999 Hank Snow, the first country superstar from Canada, dies at his Nashville home of natural causes. He is 85.
 
~1975 Former James Gang guitarist Joe Walsh, replaces Bernie Leadon in the Eagles.

~1973, American singer Bobby Darin died of heart failure,aged 37. One of the first teen idols, he had the 1959 No.1 with ‘Dream Lover’ plus 20 other US Top 40 hits during the 60′s including ‘Mack the Knife’, (Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1960). Darin traveled with Robert Kennedy and worked on the latter’s 1968 presidential campaign. He was with Kennedy the day he traveled to Los Angeles on June 4, 1968 for the California Primary. Darin was at the Ambassador Hotel later that night when Kennedy was assassinated.

~1969 Peter, Paul & Mary’s “Leaving on a Jet Plane” reaches #1.

~1968, Glen Campbell went to No.1 on the US album chart with ‘Wichita Lineman’. 
 
~1968, The Beatles sixth Christmas record “The Beatles’ 1968 Christmas Record”, was sent to fan club members in the UK and the US. It included the song ‘Nowhere Man’ sung by Tiny Tim.

~1967, Folk singer Joan Baez was sentenced to 45 days in prison after being arrested during an anti-war demonstration.

~1967 Ian Anderson, bassist Glenn Cornick, blues guitarist Mick Abrahams and his friend, drummer Clive Bunker form rock group Jethro Tull.

 
~1962, The Osmonds appeared for the first time on the NBC-TV’s “Andy Williams show”. The brothers performed ‘I’m A Ding Dong Daddy From Dumas’. 
 
 
~1948, Born on this day in London, England, Alan Parsons, studio audio engineer, musician, and record producer. He was involved with the production of The Beatles’ Abbey Road and Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon for which Pink Floyd credit him as an important contributor. Parsons’ own group, The Alan Parsons Project released several albums. He currently makes his home in Santa Barbara, CA, with his wife and family.

~Forty years ago today, the notorious Zodiac Killer began his reign of terror by claiming the lives of Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday in Benicia, CA. Despite a myriad of suspects and theories, the true identity of the Zodiac Killer remains an unsolved mystery.  In recent years, there has been renewed hope that the case may someday be solved, as investigators have gleaned DNA evidence from the envelopes of the infamous letters that were sent by the murderer to the San Francisco press.
