~1966, The Beatles get together for the first time since their return from the summer tour of the United States, ready to record a new album. The first song selected for recording is John’s ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’, which will end up, not on the album, but on The Beatles’ next single. This day’s session is devoted entirely to ‘Strawberry Fields Forever.’ (Do you remember what the “A” side of the single was? Hmm?)

~Smooth jazz saxophonist Jessy J, whose “Tropical Rain” is the No. 1 song on the Smooth Jazz Top 20, has been recognized by the Walt Disney Company. She has been inducted into the Disney Magic Days Hall of Fame, which this year is celebrating its 25th anniversary at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Disney Magic Music Days is where bands, choirs, orchestras, dance troupes, and other performance groups from schools and community groups are welcome to audition to perform at the theme park.
Jessy was also selected as a Disney Rising Star performer. As par
t of the honor, Jessy will be performing at the inaugural Disney Jazz Celebration, where vocal and instrumental jazz ensembles will be immersed in a learning environment.
The event, to be held February 18-20, 2010, provides middle and high school instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles the opportunity to perform for nationally recognized jazz educators from across the country. The celebration will include world renowned jazz artists – such as Jessy J – master classes, jam sessions and concerts. It will also promote jazz education, talent interaction and will feature evening performances.
“During the course of the festival I’ll be interacting with thousands of young jazz musicians,” says Jessy. “And I can’t wait!”

Just a while ago, was treated with Change’s “The Very Best of You” (featuring Luther), Ohio Players’ “Skin Tight”, “Sweet Sensation” from Stephanie Mills, and Jermaine Jackson “Let Me Tickle Your Fancy”, among other great soul/funk classics via www.traxx.fm ’s Funk channel.

~1991, Eric Carr (Paul Charles Caravello) drummer with Kiss died aged 41, of complications from cancer in a New York hospital. Carr replaced Peter Criss in 1980 and remained a band member until he became ill in 1991. For his Kiss stage persona, Carr was known as “The Fox.”
~1991, Freddie Mercury died of complications from aids at his home in London’s Holland park aged 45, just one day after he publicly admitted he was HIV positive. Mercury was openly bisexual and enjoyed a colourful rock star lifestyle. During his career with Queen he scored over 40 Top 40 UK singles including the worldwide No.1 ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
~1993, American blues guitarist and singer Albert Collins died of lung cancer aged 61. Known as “The master of the telecaster”, he shared a Grammy for the 1985 album Showdown! which he recorded with Robert Cray and Johnny Copeland.
